I want to...

Lose weight for good

Wegovy tablets have been shown in clinical trials to produce clinically meaningful weight loss. In the pivotal 64-week trial (OASIS 4), people taking the 25mg tablet lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo. Around 6 in 10 patients lost at least 10% of their body weight, and around 1 in 4 lost 20% or more.

Improve my blood sugar control

Among trial participants with prediabetes at the start of treatment, a much higher proportion returned to normal blood sugar levels on the tablet than on placebo (71.1% vs 33.3%).

I want to improve my blood pressure and metabolic health

Among trial participants who achieved 15% or more weight loss on the tablet, meaningful improvements in blood pressure were seen (systolic down 10.1 mmHg, diastolic down 4.3 mmHg). Overall improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors were also observed.

How does the Wegovy tablet work?

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics a natural hormone released in your gut after eating. It acts on areas of the brain that regulate appetite, helping you feel fuller for longer, reducing food cravings, and making it easier to eat less without constantly feeling hungry.

The tablet form works slightly differently to the injection. Semaglutide is a peptide, and peptides don't usually survive digestion when swallowed. The tablet is formulated with an absorption enhancer that allows the medicine to be absorbed directly through the stomach lining before it breaks down. This is why the tablet needs to be taken on an empty stomach with specific timing, so the medicine has the best chance of being absorbed properly.

Is Wegovy right for me?

You may be considered for Wegovy if:

  • You meet clinical criteria for prescription weight loss treatment
  • You have struggled to lose weight with lifestyle measures alone
  • Wegovy is medically safe based on your health history

Eligibility is assessed individually by a GP following your medical assessment.

Some honest truths

Choosing a medical treatment is a significant decision that requires a clear understanding of both the benefits and the realities of the journey. Here is an evidence-based look at what to expect.

The messageGP approach

Wegovy is a significant medication, and we believe it is safest when managed alongside a doctor who knows your medical history. Our priority is ensuring your weight loss journey is steady, sustainable, and medically sound.

What to expect during treatment

Wegovy tablets are taken once daily, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach.

Here's the routine:

  • One tablet, once a day
  • Taken after fasting for at least 8 hours (usually overnight)
  • Swallowed whole with a small amount of plain water only, up to half a glass (about 120ml)
  • Do not crush, split or chew the tablet
  • Wait 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other oral medicines

This routine matters more than it might seem, only around 1 to 2% of the tablet is actually absorbed into the bloodstream, and that absorption is reduced by food, other tablets, or larger amounts of water. Following the routine closely gives the medicine the best chance to work as intended.

Got Questions?

Got a question? We’ve got the answers. Explore our full FAQs page or send us a WhatsApp. We’re happy to answer any queries you might have.

Is Wegovy safe?

Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine that has been widely studied and approved for weight management in suitable patients. Like all medications, it can cause side effects and is not suitable for everyone. This is why we carry out a full medical assessment before prescribing and provide ongoing GP monitoring during treatment.

How does Wegovy help with weight loss?

Wegovy mimics a natural hormone that helps regulate appetite. It works by reducing hunger and helping you feel fuller for longer, which can make it easier to eat less and lose weight gradually.

How much weight can I expect to lose with Wegovy?

Weight loss varies from person to person. Some people lose a significant amount of weight, while others lose less. Results depend on factors such as starting weight, dose, medical history, and lifestyle changes. We focus on safe, realistic weight loss, not guaranteed outcomes.

How long will I need to take Wegovy?

There is no fixed treatment length. Some people use Wegovy for several months, while others may continue longer under medical supervision. We review treatment regularly and discuss ongoing use, dose changes, or stopping treatment if appropriate.

How do you reduce side effects?

We start at a low dose and increase gradually. If side effects occur, we may slow dose increases, offer advice on managing symptoms, or adjust treatment if needed.

Can I switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro?

In some cases, switching treatments may be appropriate. This depends on your response to Wegovy, side effects, and medical history. Any switch is carefully assessed and overseen by a GP.

What happens if Wegovy tablets doesn’t work for me?

If Wegovy is not effective or not well tolerated, we’ll review your options. This may include adjusting treatment, switching medication, or stopping altogether.

Do I need to change my lifestyle while taking Wegovy?

Wegovy works best alongside healthy eating and lifestyle changes. We provide guidance and support to help you achieve sustainable weight loss and maintain results long term.

What happens when I stop Wegovy?

Some people may regain weight after stopping treatment. We discuss this openly and help plan long-term strategies for weight maintenance, whether that involves lifestyle support or other medical options.

What if I miss a dose?

Skip the missed dose and take your next tablet at your usual time the next day. Don't take two tablets in one day, or take an extra one later, to make up for it.

Can I switch from the Wegovy injection to the tablet?

Yes. If you're on the maximum 2.4mg weekly injection, you can move straight to the 25mg tablet, once daily, after waiting around a week from your last injection. Because the tablet is absorbed differently, with more variation between individuals, it's normal if it doesn't feel identical to the injection at first.

Why do I have to take it on an empty stomach?

The tablet is absorbed through the stomach lining, and food, other tablets, or too much water can significantly reduce how much of the dose gets absorbed. Sticking to the routine is one of the biggest factors in how well the tablet works for you.

Do I need to refrigerate the tablets?

No, unlike the injection, the tablets don't need refrigeration. Keep them in their original blister packaging to protect them from light and moisture, and store at room temperature.
